The Centre is pleased to announce the commencement of its new online booking system. This enables clients to start their booking process online. Why use the online booking system? The online booking system is available 24 hours, 7 days a week. This therefore allows clients to start their booking with us at any time. Congratulations to Cairns Community Legal Centre President, Amanda Lee-Ross who has been inducted into Queensland’s inaugural Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Honour Roll. Amanda was the recipient of the Cairns Woman of the Year Award in 2020, and is a tireless champion for the prevention of domestic and family violence, having been involved in policy change and being the voice for those impacted by domestic and family violence. Amanda has also shared her knowledge and expertise to assist other organisations assisting those who are impacted by domestic and family violence. The Cairns Community Legal Centre is now offering a new Community Access Point at the Centacare Wellbeing Hub, Holloways Beach on the 3rd Thursday of the Month between 11.00am to 1.00pm. The Centre has recently renamed its Disability Discrimination Legal Service, to the Discrimination and Human Rights Legal Service. In addition to providing all the same disability discrimination work previously undertaken by its former Disability Discrimination Legal Service, the Discrimination and Human Rights Legal Service also provides legal services, to people who have been treated unfairly, for example because of their age, family responsibilities, gender identity, race, relationship status, religious beliefs, sexuality; or association to someone of a particular attribute. The Cairns Community Legal Centre is now offering the community access to its services via the Cairns RSL Sub-Branch. The Centre is proud to partner with the Cairns RSL in relation to this important service which is available at the RSL on the Esplanade Cairns. Clients can simply approach our workers who are at the RSL on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the Month between 9.30am to 10.30am to make an appointment which are then carried out at the Centre’s Office located at Level 2, 85 Grafton Street, Cairns.
The Centre now has it doors open on Fridays from 9.00am – 12.00pm. As always doors are also still open Monday – Thursday from 9.00am – 4.00pm; and phone lines remain open on Monday – Friday from 9.00am – 4.00pm.
The Centre has relocated to new premises. The Centre is now relocated upstairs to 2nd Floor, Main Street Arcade, 82 Grafton Street, Cairns.
The Cairns Community Legal Centre Inc. is offering a booking service for client’s through the Cairns Centrelink Office, on Aplin Street. The Centre will attend the Centrelink Office on Aplin Street each fortnight so that, Centrelink clients can make enquries about booking an appointment for legal advice with the Centre. Centrelink staff are also welcome to make enquiries and/or to refer clients to the Centre. Appointments booked are then carried out via the Centre’s Office located at Level 2, Main Street Arcade, 82 Grafton Street, Cairns.
