FOR PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY EXPERIENCING DISADVANTAGE

DISCRIMINATION AND HUMAN RIGHTS LEGAL SERVICE

The Discrimination and Human Rights Legal Service (D&HRLS) is operated by the Cairns Community Legal Centre Inc. The D&HRLS is a legal service for people who have been treated unfairly or discriminated against because of their disability, age, family responsibilities, gender identity, race, relationship status, religious beliefs, sexuality; or association to someone of a particular attribute. Additionally, work in relation to the recently passed Human Rights Act (Qld) will also feature as part of the work undertaken by this service. Community legal education and awareness-raising activities are also available.

What is discrimination?

Discrimination occurs when someone is treated unfairly or differently compared to others in the same or similar circumstances, because of their disability, race, gender, parenting responsibilities or other attributes.

The D&HRLS provides legal advice to disadvantaged people in the community throughout Queensland.
Where necessary, telephone advice may also be provided.
