Who can do Volunteer Work Experience?

 

The Cairns Community Legal Centre Inc. (the Centre) offers volunteer work experience for:

  • University students (whether law students or otherwise)
  • TAFE, Business College and High School Students (Year 11 and 12)
  • Others where appropriate

 

What the Centre offers Volunteers

 

The Centre does its best to provide its volunteers with meaningful work experience in an area which the volunteer is interested in.

 

What do Volunteers do at the Centre?

 

Volunteer law and other students may:

  • Sit in on legal advice sessions (with the consent of the client)
  • Assist with casework, community education programs and law reform campaigns
  • Assist with legal research
  • Establish contacts and network
  • Find out what it’s like being a lawyer in a community organisation
  • Acquire skills in general office procedure and protocol

 

Volunteer administration workers may:

  • Devise brochures, pamphlets and posters
  • Do typing
  • Pick up stationary
  • Do the mail
  • Find out what it’s like working in a community organisation
  • Acquire skills in general office procedure and protocol

 

Why Do Volunteer Work Experience?

 

Some reasons why it’s good to do volunteer work experience at the Centre are that:

  • It is an opportunity for you to increase your skills
  • It’s an opportunity to help you get a job
  • It’s an opportunity to be involved in a worth while organisation that helps people in need
  • You might even find that it’s fun!
